19 August 2026: Workstream Name Change

S12 Protecting the Frontline Workstream

The petition to ‘make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence’ gained over 12,000 signatures, and prompted a response from government. To keep the current ‘Lobbying Workstream’ priorities in-line with current industry issues, the workstream will now focus on the work and improvements needed to protect frontline security officers.

August Workstream Meeting

Alex Booth, workstream chair led the discussion around the next steps for the workstream, showcasing the final draft of the S12 White Paper: On the Front Line, Unprotected. Members were also informed that the workstream will be renamed and refocused to 'Protecting the Frontline'.

June Workstream Meeting

An update on engagement with the Home Office was provided. The meeting was an engaging session defining the objectives and direction for next steps.

May Workstream Meeting

This meeting discussed next steps as the petition reached 12,000 signatures and prompted a response from the government. The group discussed the response and agreed to deliver a communications campaign to support the petition.

Government responds to petition

The petition to make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence has surpassed 12,000 signatures, and prompted a response from the UK Home Office.

April Workstream Meeting

The sessions focused on the achievement of reaching 10,000 signatures on the joint petition between S12 and SIF to 'make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence'. This results in a formal response from the Home Office. An interactive conversation then followed, exploring next steps for the petition, with the proposal of a 'think tank' subgroup.

The workstream lead and registered members meet for the first time

The first Lobbying meeting brought together industry stakeholders to set the direction for the workstream. Members considered the workstream objectives, reviewed the current legislation and considered next steps.
